I didn't like Duran Duran. I missed that bus, along with the Smiths bus, and the New Order bus too. I had to go and fixate on Thomas Dolby's albums, of all things.

Anyway, Duran Duran. We had to watch their videos whenever they came on, because the guys were discovering The Girls, and What The Girls Liked. And What The Girls Liked was Simon Le Bon. I must have watched Hungry Like The Wolf about eighty million times.

Then Live Aid happened. We all crammed into Jon's living room, to watch it on cable. Duran² took the stage, and started their set with A View To A Kill, because, you know, they hadn't played the shit out of that song quite yet. The Girls lost all rationality. They cried, so genuine was their love. Us guys just sort of hung out.

Then Simon Le Bon did it. He discovered the Lost Note. It might have even been the brown note, because I crapped my pants, I was so happy. You know how teenagers are.

Do you know what I'm talking about? Simon Le Bon hit the Whore Mother of all clinkers. He wiped the memory of Peter Brady off the globe. Duran Duran's Wikipedia entry even mentions the bum note, it was so memorable. I had no idea. I just thought it was a perfect, shining moment in time, all for me and my shitty little teenage heart.

Enjoy.
